Winter diet

In terms of calories many people find organizing a winter diet more
difficult than organizing a summer one.
When we say winter diet we generally think of cabbage rolls (sarma), bacon and eggs, beans and cabbage or pickled beets, cabbage with smoked meat, which means „heavy" food which takes time to be digested, and which is very caloric. This kind of diet lacks fresh vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes and peppers and is replaced by pickled vegetables such as beetroot, pickled peppers, pickles, mixed salads, etc.
Canned foods
In winter we tend to gain weight because holiday meal contains excess calories which we insufficiently burn due to lack of activity in cold winter times. Many people reach for canned food (beans, peas) which is not bad as those are safe foods, ready for consuming and safe since they pass through heat treatment.
Those who want fresh vegetables and fruits can get plenty from deep freeze. Nowadays food processing technology has developed to the level that red canned beans preserve original colour not losing the consistency and can be easily and quickly prepared with no further culinary refinement.
With a little imagination, a meal is served...
The quality and diversity of winter diet actually depends on the imagination of the person preparing it. Finished and semi-finished food range today is so versatile that with a little effort you can get numerous dishes which are very different from traditional such as, for example, pork knuckle in cabbage or cabbage rolls. Such dishes which require lots of preparation are becoming less and less frequent on our tables due to long time of their preparation.

When we, for example, use the remains of sauerkraut and baked sausage as a basis for preparing fish or turkey steak the following day, we make it easier for us in the kitchen. Furthermore, it is desirable to replace white bread with corn or rye bread not only because of nutritional differences but for our better digestion which is slower and "sleeping" during the winter period.
All those who have health problems are recommended to avoid pork, smoked meat and fat of pork origin. It is recommended to consume numerous dairy products which are strictly divided into high and low in calories. Fermented mild products (kefir, yogurt) are ideal for long winter days. Also, there is a wide range of various fruit products (dried plums, figs, apricots).
Holidays in December are a great challenge because of the increased offer of all kinds of food which are actually consumed more out of habit than out of necessity.
Holidays in December are a great challenge because of the increased offer of all kinds of food which are actually consumed more out of habit than out of necessity, like dough cakes with plenty of fat which is definitely a real holiday calorie bomb.
In terms of calories, many people find it more difficult to organize their winter menu than the summer one. Moreover, in winter period when it's cold and windy organism requires more energy, more calories. In order to meet these needs we eat bacon and dried pork meat, beans and fatty chicken soup. Sometimes people get lost in such a situation and it results in taking too large amounts of fatty foods, which results in gaining weight which builds early in springtime. All in all, winter diet should be carefully planned and our menu changed on a daily basis.Choose from traditional or more modern dishes suggested for a winter menu:
