Wine therapy gives pleasure to both body and soul. Treatments based on
grapes and wine relax, regenerate and rejuvenate facial and body skin.
Not only truth, as they say, but also health and beauty is in wine.
Medicinal and cosmetic qualities of grape and wine have been known since
ancient times. In ancient Egypt,
Babylon, Greece
and Rome grape
and wine were not used only for health and fitness, but also for care, the
achievement and preservation of beauty and youthful appearance of the facial
and body skin. Grape therapy was popular at the court of the French king Louis
XIV. The nobles massaged their faces with grape juice in order to remove the
traces of fatigue and make their skin soft, shiny and tight.
Centuries later, 1993 in France, in wine-growing region of Bordeaux, research started which intended to verify scientifically the positive effect of grape and wine, health and beauty that has been known since the ancient times. Then, among other things, was discovered that grape seeds contain substances that are much more effective in fighting free radicals and antioxidants and vitamin E and C, which were previously considered to be the most effective. As it is well known that the free radicals are the most responsible for skin aging, soon the first cosmetic preparations on the basis of polyphenols were made and they were based on polyphenols obtained by cold pressing the grape seeds. In 1999 the first wellness center which offered wine therapy was opened. Grape seeds pressing offered various cosmetic therapies based on beneficial healing effects of grape and wine.

Grapes contain an abundance of vitamins, minerals and elements in traces, including vitamins A and B-group, vitamin C and E, then sodium, fluorine, magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium and phosphorus, and fruit acids: tartaric, citric and malic acid. Grape, and especially its seeds and skin, is rich in polyphenols, antioxidants that are particularly effective against free radicals responsible for as many as 80% of the aging of our skin. They are, for example, 50 times stronger than vitamin E and 18 times stronger than vitamin C.

Wine therapy uses varietal wines and their extracts, grape juices, pressed (crushed) grapes and the remains of pressing, and flour, bran, and the cold compressed oil from grape seeds. This oil is especially effective and valuable, because the abundance of antioxidant polyphenols and it contains about 90% unsaturated fatty acids, of which about 70% essential linolenic acid. Bioactive substances from the grapes, wine and pumpkin seeds are used for cleansing, peeling, massage and baths, compressed, packs and face masks, some parts of whole body. To further improving the effects of these bioactive substances, they are often mixed with thermal water, mud, goat's milk butter, honey and variety of essential oils.
However, the vitality, health and beauty does not come only from outside by applying various cosmetic treatments, but also from inside. That's why wine therapy includes selected menus based on healthy foods and drinks that foster vitality, health and beauty, but surely also give pleasure to the palate. In addition to enjoying the carefully chosen wines and grape juices, wellness centers offer wine therapy together with top quality dishes which contain wine, grape and grape oil well known in national cuisines. On menus there are unavoidable bread, pastry, pasta, crackers made by flour and bran obtained from grape seeds.
