To lick your fingers

Published:
24.03.2008.

Have you tried to enjoy in touching food, your hands and mouth without restraints and also in the unique process of these three factors while eating? To eliminate a cold mediator which interferes in your relationship between food and your sensitive tongue. The fingers are the most delicate and the most sensitive tools you can imagine – an extension of our thoughts and senses.

In our childhood the golden rule was "Do not eat with your hands", but today, the ettiquette of noneating with your fingers is threatened from all sides. Moreover, because of the fact that the third of mankind eats with their hands, this alternative trend may become dominant.

Finger eating is a cultural event and everyone has to try it, for example during your vacation to India where the food is prepared for finger eating. But, India is not the only "finger-eating" nation. Besides finger food, canapés, crudités, hors d'oeuvres, many western types of snack food have been designed. You can eat with your fingers cookies, bread, shells, asparagus, artichokes, chips, fried chicken, sandwiches, fish, fruits, pancakes and other types of food.

Yet, if you cannot forget the fact that finger eating is a barbaric act, a Chinese designer Jie Zhu came up with an idea and designed a finger formed cutlery. That type of cutlery you put on your own fingers like their natural extension. The advantages of this cutlery are these: ergonomics, better tasting of the food, a more descreet hand movements and physical dexterity – this is a perfect cutlery to use in small places such as airplanes.

The New Culinary Anarchy

The 21st century is a time of culinary anarchy and freedom. Anything goes and anything is available: from food that is ergonomically shaped to match our mouth, the fusion of incompatible cuisines, custom-made food and dishes, multi-functional food in multi-tasking coditions, the dominance of stills over tradition, junk food in a new way and a revolution in packaging and design.

Nothing is imposed on you – eat with your fingers, lick your fingers, use the cutlery and just eat and enjoy...
